Foundation Hosts Annual General Meeting

The Pinawa Foundation would like to thank everyone that attended our thirteenth AGM on Tuesday June 20 at the Lewis Centre Board Room. “We were very excited to be able to have our first in-person AGM since 2019” said Chris Saunders, Chairman of the Foundation. “The past year was very busy for us and we were pleased to share our story with all those who attended”.

Chris gave a short presentation about the past year. Chris announced that the Foundation had exceeded our giving milestone this year of granting over $1 Million to groups in Pinawa since 2010. Carol Findlay, the Foundation’s treasurer presented our year-end financials (endowed funds totaled $1.5 Million).

After the presentation, grants were awarded by the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) Group from the high school to 6 projects including:

FW Gilbert Robotics Club – $500 for radio/blue tooth-controlled robot building and coding kits for grade 1-6

Shirley’s Kitchen – $250 for kitchen stock pot, hand blender, and small utensils.

Survivor’s Hope – $500 for signage, banner, and a canopy tent.

Pinawa Hospital – $500 for replacement wheelchairs

Pinawa Arena Board – $250 for Zamboni maintenance

Daycare – $500 for a – baby area change table.

The Foundation would like to thank the YIP Group and their mentor Lisa Krupka for another successful year. Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting each of these projects on our Facebook page.

Carol Findlay then announced the results of our Community Project Month Program. This year, we raised over $88,497 for 14 projects, including the 40% top up provided by the Foundation, including:

Survivor’s Hope Crisis Inc. – Speaking out against Sexual Violence Project. Goal: $3,000; Raised $5,476

Pinawa Art 211 – Connecting Art & Community for Pinawa Birthday. Raised $1,715

Courts of Pinawa Club – Accessible Sidewalks for the Courts. Raised $5,985

WSXC Ski Club – New Renovator/Track Setter. Goal: Raised $8,699

Pinawa Lions Club – Pinawa 60th Birthday Weekend Expenses (tent/facilities). Raised $5,705

Orville Acres Arena – Ice Plant Compressor Overhaul. Raised $4,235

Pinawa Public Library – Story Walk Phase 2. Raised $9,825

Trans Canada Trail – Ironwood Upgrades.  Raised $1,260

Children’s Place Day-Care – Backyard Improvements. Raised $14,063

Pinawa Cancer Care – Blood Pressure Machine. Raised $5,103

Pinawa Holiday Cheer Committee – Holiday Wreaths & Lights. Raised $630

Pinawa Health Auxiliary – Courtyard Garden & ER Stretcher. Raised $6,797

Two Rivers Seniors – Services for Seniors programs. Raised $2,730

F. W. Gilbert PAC – Outdoor Classroom & Tire Climbers. Raised $16,303
