“Our second full year was successful and we continue learned a lot about our community”, said Chris Saunders, Chairman of the Board. “I would like to welcome our newest board member, Susan Musey, and thank our outgoing members Paul Barnsdale, Kelly Deveau, Martha Laverock and Pat Sullivan. All four were valuable to the board and I hope to see them involved with the foundation in the coming years”.

Over the past year, Pinawa Foundation has:

  1. Received donations and grants totalling $45,500. We provided grants to the community totally $11,500, over 8.7% of our endowment total of $131,000. Our goal is to reach $200,000 in endowed funds by the end of 2014, as we continue to raise the profile of the foundation, with local advertising and news articles.
  2. Established the Ron Drabyk Memorial Endowment Fund in honour of Ron and his many contributions to Pinawa.
  3. Started our “Drive to 500 Campaign” to get residents to sign up online to be organ donors. We have signed up over 400 local donors so far.
  4. Partnered with Investment Planning Counsel of Winnipeg to become the foundation’s second continuing corporate partner.
  5. Continued our partnership with Aeroplan in their Beyond Miles Charitable Pooling Program. Making a donation is easy; just go www.aeroplan.com/donate
  6. Presented two scholarships at Pinawa’s Graduation Ceremony in 2012 (Amelia James-Thiessen and Anna Macdonald).
  7. Granted the Survivor’s Hope Crisis Centre $1125 for their 2012 SARAH Program Annual Volunteer Training.
  8. Helped support Andrew Hampshire, a 2007 graduate from Pinawa High School, to purchase a special handivan.
  9. Partnered with the Pinawa Community Multipurpose Facility Committee at F.W. Gilbert to raise funds for their new Multipurpose Facility.
  10. Establishing our first memorial scholarship, in honour of Gladys Guthrie. The first scholarship will be offered in 2013.
  11. Become a sponsor of the Pinawa Secondary School Graduation Ceremony.
  12. Supported and volunteered at the Lion’s Club Christmas Dinner.

In the coming months, the foundation will again participate in the Celebrity Golf Tournament in June, sponsor the Reunion Social and host a pancake breakfast, both as part of the 50th Birthday Celebration.

Thank-you Pinawa for your support over the past year. Early success brings momentum and confidence. If you want to learn more or help out, please contact anyone of the board members or see our web page at www.pinawafoundation.org.
