The Pinawa Foundation presented two $500 scholarships at Pinawa’s Graduation Ceremony on June 28. “We selected two students who have demonstrated an active interest in their school as well as their larger community of Pinawa” said Carol Findlay, the Foundation’s Treasurer. “The Foundation had a successful year in 2011 and as we continue to grow we are proud to assist students who are starting their post-secondary education”.
Amelia James-Thiessen received one of the scholarships. She participated in soccer, is a member of LIVE, the school’s volunteer club, tutored other students, and is involved with the yearbook as the editor. Amelia plans to pursue a career as a X-ray Technician.
Anna McDonald was the recipient of the other scholarship. Anna participated in all activities that the school offers – student council, LIVE, Reach for the Top, Jazz & Concert Band, Outdoor Ed trips, soccer, volleyball, curling and basketball, tutored fellow students, organized independently a fund raising event for Pinawa Cancer Care, and assisted with the packing of Christmas hampers. Anna Macdonald plans for a career in medicine.
