Pinawa Foundation Awards Our 2024 Scholarships

The Pinawa Foundation was very proud to recently announce our scholarship recipients for 2024 at the Pinawa Secondary School.

Mallery McKay received the Pinawa Foundation Scholarship valued at $1,500. Mallery participated in the school community on student council, LIVE, yearbook and YIP.  Girl Guides provided more opportunities for volunteer work and taught her valuable life skills.  She has volunteered at Siloam Mission, fund raising for animal rescue, cleaning litter from roadside spring and fall as well as fostering puppies. Her interests included attendance at a leadership conference through Manitoba A.L.I.V.E. where she learned the value of active listening and how to make a speaker feel heard.

Celeste Fontaine who plans to pursue a career in rehabilitation therapy in kinesiology at the University of Winnipeg, was awarded the Gladys Guthrie Memorial Scholarship valued at $2,000.

Gladys Guthrie was one of the first nurses in Pinawa Hospital and an excellent example of the most important principle of the nursing profession; according those in your care value, dignity and kindness.  This memorial scholarship in her memory has been established by her family to be presented to a deserving student entering nursing or a related field of health care. Celeste has shown an interest in her community throughout her school years.  She has served on student council, participated in L.I.V.E., joined YIP and coached middle school soccer. Girl Guides offered the experience of volunteer work visiting seniors, time at Siloam Mission and fundraising activities. She is also a member of the 2023-2024 RCMP National Youth Advisory Committee, a group that discuss youth issues such as crime, cyberbullying, mental health and discrimination.
