Winter 2015 News

The New Year started with an exciting opportunity:

The Thomas Sill Foundation Challenge

The Board of The Pinawa Foundation is excited to announce that the challenge from the Thomas Sill Foundation has been accepted effective March 2, 2015.

Mr. Sill lived his entire life in Winnipeg. He was an astute investor who built a fortune which became the basis for the Thomas Sill Foundation. In his last will, Tom Sill established the foundation. His will, a measure of his astuteness, contained only this instruction: “I have decided to create an entity for charitable purposes.”

The Thomas Sill Foundation is offering the opportunity to build our endowment fund. Every dollar gifted to the Pinawa Foundation in the next 18 months will be matched 1 for 2 by the Thomas Sill Foundation to a maximum of $25,000. If we raise at least $50,000, we can add another $25,000 to help out all the great groups around Pinawa.

First Gift starts 2015 – 2016 Thomas Sill Foundation Challenge

It was exciting to receive a cheque for $5,500 from Manitoba Hydro Employees – Great Falls Rural Area Charity. This fund was established over 20 years ago to give to local hospital funds in Whitemouth, Pinawa & Pine Falls. Their mandate changed when the Regional Health Authority was created and so to keep to the original spirit of the fund, giving to health and wellness care, they have presented the foundation with this contribution
The arrival of this generous gift was timely as it coincides with the kickoff of the 18 month campaign to raise $50,000. Ten percent of the goal is a giant first step. Thank you to the generous Hydro employees who have shared with us.

Partnerships

F. W. Gilbert PAC is partnered with the Foundation to raise funds for development and enhancement of a more natural playground at FW Gilbert School. Their goal is to raise $30,000 over the next 3 years. The foundation is accepting donations on their behalf starting April 1, 2015. Donations over $25 are eligible for a tax receipt. Please mention it is for the FWG Playground.
