Pinawa Foundation presents Two Scholarships

The Pinawa Foundation represented by Carol Findlay was pleased to present two scholarships. These awards go to students who have demonstrated an active interest in their school community as well as the community beyond the walls of PSS. The students are outstanding examples of volunteer models who give back to their community. The students are learning the rewards of giving of themselves through volunteer work.

Pinawa Foundation Scholarship ($500)

Jill Lauze demonstrated her community involvement through her participation in all team sports every year at Pinawa Secondary. She was an active member of the LIVE group as well as a member of the Envirothon team. Jill is active and fully involved in the Girl Guides of Canada. Her commitment to providing a positive experience for the younger girls as a Junior Leader makes her an ideal candidate for this scholarship. Jill plans to pursue a career as a Social Worker.

Gladys Guthrie Memorial Scholarship ($1500)

This award was presented by Myrna Klassen a dear friend of Gladys Guthrie who shared these thoughts. The family established this award in her memory. Her patients benefited from her compassion, her no-nonsense attitude and her wry sense of humour. Gladys exemplified the most important principle of the nursing profession: according to those in your care value, dignity and kindness.

Tessa Trueman has shown her commitment to community throughout her years at Pinawa Secondary by her active involvement in all aspects of school. She was active in sports, school band, outdoor ed and student council. She has been a volunteer at camp, plays music for church and has recently given her time to “Love Lives Here” a drop in center for the homeless. Tessa plans to pursue a career in nursing.
